Turkish Diver’s World Records in Mexico Makes Turkish People Proud

Turkish freediver Fatma Uruk set a world record on Nov. 17 after diving 72 meters in Mexico. However, it was not only one record but 3. So, Turkish diver’s world records made Turkish people proud.

The First Goal of the Turkish Diver

Turkish diver Fatma Uruk is 32 years old. She was in the Yucatan Peninsula to dive when she accomplished her first goal. So, she made this goal real by breaking the world record in the women’s “Variable Weight Without Fins” category. After breaking the record, Turkish diver’s world records were not limited to this. So, the Turkish free diver Fatma Uruk noted: “Beforehand, I said, I am going to wave the world’s most beautiful flag here in Mexico. We are here and everything is on the way.”

Joy and Proud on Social Media

Turkish diver Fatma Uruk’s world records caused enthusiasm on social media. Youth and Sports Ministry tweeted: “We are with you, Fatma. We wish that your every dive turns into a new record. Never give up.”

The Turkish embassy in Mexico congratulated Fatma Uruk on social media appreciating her victory. “She did not give up and she did it! We wish her luck on her next two record tries.”

Another Celebration from the Former Weight Lifting World Champion

Hamza Yerlikaya, deputy youth, and sports minister, also congratulated the freediver. With an applause emoji, Yerlikaya tweeted, “I congratulate [Uruk] her.” Hamza Yerlikaya, by the way, is Turkey’s former weight lifting champion many times.

Turkish Diver’s Isolation Story

Before the record attempt, the Turkish free diver Fatma Uruk told her isolation story to the TRT Sports channel. “After getting a take off from work, I came here in March to dive. One week later, the pandemic broke out, and I was forced to stay here.” She also added that “Today, on a rainy day, I will dive for a record. I know that people support me, and I thank them all.”

Afterward, Turkish diver, Fatma Uruk gave another try for another world record. The freediver dived into 65 meters in the “Constant Weight Bi-Fins” category. 65 meters was the previous world record in this category and Fatma Uruk set this world record with 67 meters. The previous record-holder was another Turkish athlete, Derya Can. She had set the world record in the same category by diving up to 70 meters in 2013. And so, another Turkish diver Fatma Uruk did not stop there and after breaking this record with 72 meters, she maintained the game. So, Fatma Uruk also set her own record with the second try. Thus, she elevated the record from 72 meters to 77. Hereby, Fatma Uruk tied her own world record with the second try.

The Previous Turkish World-Record Holder

Derya Can, on the other hand, is another world-famous and talented Turkish free diver. She had achieved her record in Turkey’s Kas city, in Turkey’s Mediterranean coastal province of Antalya.
