What is The Story of Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman Ki — Time Goes By Turkish TV Series?

The story of the Turkish TV drama revolves around the 1960s. Cemile (played by Ayça Bingöl) is the main character of the series. She could not forget all the bad things her husband had done to her and her family. Cemile is also a mother of whom lost a child and grandchild at birth. And moreover, Cemile, who owns her own garment workshop. She, on the other hand, struggles for survival with their groom and grandchildren.

Her daughters are Berrin (played by Yıldız Çağrı Atiksoy) and Aylin (played by Farah Zeynep Abdullah). Mete (played by Aras Bulut İynemli) and Osman (played by Emir Berke Zincidi), by the way, are her sons. Her mother-in-law is Hasefe Hanım (played by Meral Çetinkaya). Meanwhile, Osman, the youngest son of Cemile, is the storyteller of the series about these events. Furthermore, the 3rd season of the series also depicts September 12, 1980, Military Coup.

To summarize briefly, Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman Ki — Time Goes By Turkish TV drama successfully depicts the politic, social and economic turmoils of the 1960’s Turkey over the Akarsu family. While doing so, the audience witnesses the good and devil, innocence and guilt, punish and crime. However, the most-hated devil of the series is probably Ali Akarsu (played by Erkan Petekkaya) and he is the husband of Cemile.

Ali (Erken Petekkaya) is Cemile’s ex-spouse. He is also the father of Berrin, Osman, Mustafa, Aylin and Mete. Ali is a sailor and captain. He, later on, cheated on Cemile and married a Dutch woman and threw his ex-wife and children on the street. Afterwards, he went to jail because he killed the fisherman. A baby named Mustafa was born from Caroline (the Dutch woman, played by Wilma Elles). However, Cemile was the one who took care of the baby for a while due to some problems.

After the results of treatment cured the injury, Ali started working at Karcı Holding with the job offer of Kenan Çetin. However, due to his support to Cemile, he was dismissed and Caroline replaced him. Due to his evil past, he committed suicide by leaving himself in the blue waters of the seas he served as a captain for years. He is in deep regret because he left Cemile and his children.

Mete (Aras Bulut İynemli) is the family’s middle child. He hates his father. He has romantic feelings for music teacher İnci. When his teacher comes down with cancer, Mete remained with her until she died. He was interested in music because of İnci Teacher and started to take part in a group as a vocalist. Then, he founded a band with his high school friends after high school. He felt in love with the waitress named Nihal in the place where he worked. Therefore, so many events happened to him.

After his father’s death, he tried to avoid all the burden of the family and not to let them feel his father’s absence. No matter how much he wanted his brother Osman to interfere with political events, he failed. He undertook the murder involving his brother’s name but escaped from the prison. Sadly, he experienced torture during the military coup in Turkey in 1980.

Beautiful and Good-Hearted Daughter of Akarsu Family

Berrin (Yıldız Çağrı Atiksoy) is the family’s older child and the older sister of Osman, Aylin and Mete. She studied Law at Istanbul University. She fells in love with her university friend Ahmet and got pregnant from him. However, when Ahmet had to flee abroad, he left the school, too. So, Berrin made an unintended marriage with Hakan. Because Hakan was the only person who could provide Ahmet’s escape. She had a daughter named Zehra from Hakan. Afterwards, she divorced Hakan and married Ahmet again. She started living with his daughter with Ahmet. Later, she becomes pregnant with Ahmet, but Ahmet is killed at that time. That’s why she named her son as Ahmet. After a while, they start feeling something against Hakan and they all live together.

Conflict Between Little Children of the Family

Aylin (Farah Zeynep Abdullah) is the sister who came after Berrin. He left school in the last year of high school and married Soner’s brother Murat. Although she was not in love with him married Murat, even though she was in love with Soner. She got pregnant from Soner after she divorced Murat. It was risky to give birth due to a heart problem. However, she did not listen to the warnings of those doctors about her child. So, she wanted to be a mother insistently. During this risky birth, she died while bringing her baby to the world.

Osman (Emir Berke Zincidi) is the youngest of the family and is the brother of Berrin, Aylin and Mete. Osman is very fond of his parents, but he grew up introvertly. Because his childhood was on the verge of breaking apart with the separation of his parents. He started high school and became a high school student at the age of 16.

The Iconic Character of Turkish Televisions From That Time On

Caroline (Wilma Elles) is Ali’s lover from the Netherlands. Although Ali already had a family, beating his mind, she took him away from his family and married him. Later, we see that this marriage is a plan to defraud Ali with a friend like her living in the Netherlands. When she started to love Ali after marriage, she never returned to her friend in Holland. Whereupon the friend of Caroline comes to Turkey to terminate the plan. When Caroline’s friend tried to kill Ali, she caused the death of her friend.

When Ali learns the plan, he leaves Caroline. Meanwhile, Caroline became pregnant with Ali. When Ali went to prison, he has gone mad and became an alcoholic. She left his baby Mustafa from Ali and went to Holland. After a while, she returned to Turkey and started to live with Ali. When love began with Kenan, she left Ali. Years later, when she lost both her ex-spouse Ali and her lover, Kenan, she started to live with Ekrem. And when she was in her 40s, the years matured her. She started living with Ekrem Tatlıoğlu.

Aras Bulut İynemli (acted as Mete) made a great job in this Turkish TV drama. And then he became one of the most popular Turkish actors. He now acts in the phenomenon Turkish TV series Çukur — The Pit. On the other hand, Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman Ki — Times Goes By has been dubbed and published in more than 30 countries all over the world, mostly in the Arab world and language.

And the second one was  “Asi“. In fact, “Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman Ki” and other Turkish shows are so successful in Macedonia that the government passed a bill to restrict broadcasts of Turkish series during the day and at prime time. So, the aim is to reduce the Turkish impact on Macedonian society.
