Today, we are before you with an interesting story of an interesting Turkish village. The article is about a village and its people. So, what makes this village interesting and brings it to the agenda is its name: Çıplak [naked in Turkish]. The village, with 350 inhabitants, located in the Aegean province of Çanakkale city. However, villagers are having a hard time due to its name, because visitors and tourists think that it is a nudist camp.
Complaints of the Turkish Village
The villagers complain about the comments on social media and the local tourists who take pictures in front of the entrance sign while passing through the settlement. The village is located on the road of Troy Ruins and what’s more, it has a history of 5,000 years. The headman of the village stated that they are tired of being misunderstood due to its name. The headman of the “Naked Village” Ufuk Göçoğlu has been repeatedly explaining the origin of the village’s name. So, according to his explanation, “People who do not own property here are called naked.” Therefore, the word “naked” has nothing to do with being psychically naked.
Where does the Name of the Village Come from?
Ufuk Göçoğlu, the headman of the village, added that the name of the village came from a person. The person founded the settlement in the region, who was penniless. The reason why he was broke is that he lost his property in a swampy area. And thus, people referred to him as Çıplak Dede (Naked Grandfather). As we notified, the name of the village is the subject of jokes. However, the people of the village do not want to change the name of the village. It is probably because of the history in which the name and the village rely on.

“By this time, the names of many villages have changed. The name of the village is being ridiculed. But we don’t want our village[‘s] name to change, we are determined,” Göçoğlu, the headman of the village, noted. However, the people of the village want the rumors that “there is a nudist camp in a village of Çanakkale” to end. Because it is just not true and there is no nudist camp in the “naked village”.
How Can I Go to the Turkish Village?
Çıplak Köyü (Naked Village) takes place in the borders of Çanakkale city. While you are heading to Troy ruins, the village stays 2 km east of the ruins. By clicking here, you can see the exact location of the village. Finally, residents of Naked village (Çıplak Köyü) are uncomfortable with misunderstanding. And so, they strongly demand from visitors to stop posing naked in front of the sign of the village. As they say, this is totally irrelevant and has nothing to do with the name of the village.
