Lately, a Turkish Cookbook has won the most prestigious award in its own category. The book belongs to the founder and head chef of the Anatolian restaurant Çiya. The writer of the book and the head chef of the restaurant is Musa Dağdeviren. And his restaurant is in Istanbul. Meanwhile, the award is the highest cookbook award in this category. The award is as important as a Nobel for cookbooks. The world-renowned publishing house Phaidon published the book and as soon as they published, the book attracted huge attention.
What is the “Gourmand Award”?
Gourmand Cookbook Award is the most prestigious book award in the category of the cookbook. Further, the committee annou3nces a list of winners every year. So the owner and the head chef of Çiya restaurant Musa Dağdeviren took place in the first place of this year’s list. The name of the book is The Turkish Cookbook and its language is English.
In addition to the language of the book is being English, it also contains over 500 recipes from every part of Turkey. The book contains recipes for popular dishes, as well as rare local ones. On the other hand, the publishing house said that the book was a first in that it reflected the true variety in Turkish cuisine.
Who is Musa Dağdeviren?
Musa Dağdeviren opened his first restaurant on the side of a highway in the southeastern province of Gaziantep in 1987. He is mostly famous for his significant role in commercializing local tastes from eastern Turkey. What’s more about him, he was also the first cook from Turkey to take part in Netflix’s gastronomy docuseries Chef’s Table. So, the docuseries is a world-famous Netflix show and the chef, Musa Dağdeviren, took part in the season 5 episode 2. The story is after journeying through Turkey’s regions, Chef Musa transformed the culinary scene in Istanbul. Then, he started preparing traditional Turkish dishes in his restaurant.
The world-renowned publishing house Phaidon published the book and noted that Dağdeviren is the “leading authority in unique food transformations,”. The chef, Musa Dağdeviren, played a huge role in introducing Anatolian cuisine to the world at his restaurant Çiya.
