While the criminal case was ongoing, Ahmet Mert Özçelik, the only remaining member of the Özçelik family, filed a lawsuit against Serbes for 4.5 million Lira ($600.000 approx.).
After the trial, the court ordered the writer Emrah Serbes to pay 1.4 million Lira in compensation. The court, on the other hand, decided that Özçelik would pay the fee payment of the attorney fee for the rejected part of the compensation claim.
13 Years and 4 Months of Arrestment
After the accident, the court decided to arrest the author and held him in prison for a while. The court also sentenced Emrah Serbes to 13 years and 4 months in prison in February 2020 as a result of the trial. The Supreme Court upheld the decision in May.
