Faruk is a young and rich and a modern businessman, but his family is led by his mother Esma (played by İpek Bilgin) who is a hard traditionalist and ultimate decision maker. Esma was planning Faruk to marry with İpek (played by Dilara Aksüyek) Süreyya is played by Aslı Enver, is a modern artist and who lost her parents and raised by her aunt. Later in the first season, the audience was surprised by Faruk’s background. This may be a big spoiler, so we need to say that the storyline has major differences with the original story.

This series is a bit different from common eastern and western conflict. It’s about tradition and modern choices also woman’s situation is also subjected. Süreyya is a strong character, Faruk’s mother is also a strong character, however, the main conflict is women’s situation on society, Süreyya defends a feminst line; standing on her own feet, can make her own decisions, and she does not have to obey the societal assertiveness. By contrast with Süreyya, Esma defends a traditional line; in spite of dominating the house she defends patriarchal structure, she thinks that woman has the duty to keep the family together and defends it from all threats comes from outside.

  1. If the book was written by a doctor , how did she know about the family. She didn’t interview the teal bride. She is on Instagram and denies some of the details. She is separated from ( Farouk) for 20 years. Couldn’t have been such a live story.

  2. Does it have a come back with the family after their financial disaster ?
How do you email ashli and ozem / Farouk

  3. Dilsora Sattorova bin tu Furkat

Honestly, I have been finished 4 or 5 times. It reminds me of grandmom and when I came to Korea first I started to watch and it helped to escape the stress and missing my family. I learned many things about life and family. We can see that how to protect, help, and get together in any situation as a family. I want to say thanks to all actors and film managers. All actions and performances had been chosen greatly. In winter I will travel to Turkey and in sha Allah I will visit traditional shopping malls and architectural places which are seen in the movie.

  4. Loved this series, I watched Bride of Istanbul 8 times and loved every moment of it.
Soraya and Farouk have such beautiful chemistry, they make the story real.
    Love it.

  5. Lindsay Jane Caress

Ulce’ Sarpkin and her husband are still alive but I think they are separated. Ulce’ is on Facebook, she is still a tailoress and designer and sings when she is asked to perform. Lindsay Jane Caress.

  6. I love Istanbul Gelin so. It only had English subtitles up to episode 180. The rest didn’t but I still watched it and enjoyed. I really loved watching Faruk and Sureya. It showed that even a strong relationship can be shaken by lust. There are women and men out there who don’t care that one is married or not. They still want you. Temptations always around people’s lives. Glad Faruk and Sureya conquered the devil

  7. Emmah Saji if you go on YouTube and tipe Istanbullu Gelin and go on their website and look for the Bride of Istambul(English subtitles) you can see final season 3 I just watched 248/249 episode this morning Hope that’s help!!

  8. Love this drama series. I wonder if they are still married or not? Are they still friends even when separated? The other characters did a good job as well. The support system was excellent.

  9. I loved it!!! The acting by all was so real and convincing.
I loved the family unit and how strong it was. Loved the traditions. Esma Sultan was too dominating in the beginning, but half way through she came around.. she was only 63 when she died so why the writers and producers of the show painted a picture that she was old? Why did they “kill” her?

  10. Where can we see all the original characters? Or was the true story only about Sureyya and Faruk?
Loved the series!!! It was the best! I almost cried with every episode 🤗

  11. best story ever im movie fanatyk saw all movies all times grow up in movie teather where my mom was working, was Surreya my self have Farruck too….so much indenticuol love story maybe thats way love this movie.Did not understund the part of Yaz viziting the sojcologist?? please let me know if is chance to more sezons?? Oscan Deniz and Asly what chemistry, have to admitt i think best proforments for Oscan so handsom like him better acting then singing.

  12. Why did they make queen Esme look so old if she was only 60 when show started. She looked and acted like 80! And she died when she was like 63 very young and you don’t just die like that from Alzheimer’s. Loved the show was addicted to it but that was the only unrealistic part

  13. Excellent Series. Addictive, emotional, great actors. Why didn’t they show more of youngest Brother?

  14. I love this show why yaz went to the psychiatrist and said her mom killed her grandma? And why younger brother wasn’t there even when esma died ? Are the real character still alive ?

  15. Yaz being at the psychiatrist is just a nightmare Süreyya is having after Esma asked her help in ending her life. Its never happening, it is how she sees herself in Yaz eyes if she would accept Esma’s request. Berkal Hardal (Murat) and Hira Koyuncuoğlu (Bade) were probably cast in a different show /series and the directors decided not to use them any longer in this series , however sad and ridiculous it might present itself. They went to the USA and they never ever been able to book two return trips to Bursa since. That’s Turkish Drama for you!

ALTHOUGH several characters are certainly fictionalised and more story lines were added and modernised , there was a great love story which have witnessed very similar challenges when a girl band singer and a wealthy businessman fall madly in love and married against or odds , which inspired this movie. We would never know about them (might yet be alive or not … who knows??) if not for the magic touch of Istanbullu Gellin on our hearts and souls .So that couple doesn’t really matter , as we cried a river ,laughed childishly, fall in love with pathos and hated fiercely because of Faruk ve Süreyya ,Esma ve Garip, Akif ve Senem , Fikret ve İpek, Adem ve Dilara ,Gulistan ve Nazif, Osman ve Anastasia , Murat ve Bade , Nurgül ve Mustafa and all the rest who made this magic possible for over 212 hours. That makes between 12 days /18 h average binge-watching – up to 42days/5h average of binge-watching.

  16. I have never watched such a long series. It was like an addiction – impossible to stop, to read or watch a movie, or do anything else in the evening. I wanted to be there, with the family! The acting was superb. And I loved the music. To call it “soap opera” would be an insult. It had depth and pace in the story and the development of characters. The final episodes were a disappointment – but thankyou for making this marvelous series available -with subtitles!

  17. Best series ever. I have watched it 5 times and never get tired of it. All the actors are superb. Almost wish Asli and Ozcan were together in real life

  18. Crystal Lane Freeland

I loved this series, I am addicted to it. I started watching about 2 months ago and I watch atleast 4 episodes after work. I am on episode 263 I am going to be so sad when its over.
I wish Alsi & Oscan were together in real life. The are both so beautiful.

  19. I loved this series! Well acted, great dialogue. I felt like I was part of the story after watching so may episodes.

I have about questions about unfinished parts in the series…….

    1. the fourth Brother gets married and moves to London. He never shows up except references to him on facetime. What happened to this actor’s role?

    2. There was a short scene about the grown daughter of Süreyya and Faruk where she goes to the psychiatrist and says she witnessed her mother (Süreyya having died years later) was responsible for killing Esma. Obviously that did not happen. Then a very quick scene with this daughter showed up and was cut off. So was this a mistake or was there going to be some other story about this but never was done? Why weren’t these scenes just cut out from the series? I waited until the end to see if the story continued but it never did.

    3. The last episode 301 was a nice touch, but who were all the people that came into the scene at the end? Were they the people/staff behind the entire series? Cameramen? spouses? others?

    4. One more question, the babies in the series were really cute and seemed to fit in with the characters like they belonged. Just wondering were they “extras” or were they real children of some of the actors in the series?
