Ölüdeniz (The Dead Seas) is one of the best places you must see in Turkey. The place is called “The heaven bestowed to earth by God”. With it’s incredibly blue sea and its unique beach, the place deserves such imputations.

With its high potential for tourism, Ölüdeniz became a nice resort town of Fethiye-Muğla. Its popularity is still increasing since the beginning of 1990’s. As the increasing amounts of visitors each year, the municipality of Ölüdeniz improved the town’s infrastructure and worked on the comfort of the visitors. With such interest to increase the towns tourism capacity, Ölüdeniz now became one of the most comfortable resort towns in Turkey.

There are lots of hotels, hostels, holiday villages, camps around the town.  The beauty and the ease of planning a holiday in Ölüdeniz attract the visitors who are intended to go to Turkey.

Besides the natural beauties of the town, Ölüdeniz has a rich historical area and cultural heritage, which gives a worldwide reputation to Ölüdeniz.

Transportation and accommodation

It is possible to travel to the town by sea, air and land transportation. There are regular intercity bus services from the major cities like İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Antalya. The Dalaman airport is one hour away from the town. The distance between Fethiye and Ölüdeniz is about 12 km, and there is regular bus services between Fethiye to Ölüdeniz

Local Places

Hisarönü:

It is settled on the Fethiye-Ovacık road, within gorgeous pine forests. Hisarönü can be called a village and has about 3.000 designated bed capacity. The place is mostly preferred by English tourists.

Ovacık:

Ovacık is about 6 km away from the town center. Its distance from Ölüdeniz is about 5kms. The place have lots of hotels and hostels and gives you the mixture of the old and the new.

It is the place where the famous Blue Lagoon of Ölüdeniz. The seashore has modern tourism facilities. There is all kind of accommodation, eat-drink, entertainment places and public beaches in Belceğiz. Water sports are very popular in Belceğiz.

There is also a camping place in KIRDAK National Park, which is located in the southern-east of Belceğiz.

Ölüdeniz and Kumburnu, which is mostly seen on the photos, are located at the Northern-east og Belceğiz. This area is stated as National Park and it is 1. degree of natural protected area by the government of Turkey. Kumburnu is mostly visited by daily resting beach.

The places which you must see:

Kelebekler Vadisi (The Valley of The Butterflies)

The valley has been declared by 1. degree of natural protected zone in 1985, and every type of settlement are prohibited by the government. The rocky and piny valley host billions of butterflies. The name of the valley comes from the view of the butterflies which covers all of the places.

The transportation to the valley is provided by the small boats from the Ölüdeniz beach.

Gemiler Adası (The Island of the Ships)

The place is located at the west of Ölüdeniz and it is about 7kms away from the town. The island has the historical remains of the homes, warehouses, a church a cistern, which are built-in the Byzantian era between the 5th and 13th centuries. The Island of the Ships a historical place that must be preserved for future generations.

The Ships Bay is a nice place to see, it is told that Nicolas the saint of the seas, is lived on this Island.

With an experienced pilot, you may enjoy the paragliding action for about 30-40 minutes, from the 1975 metters height Babadağ and down to the wonderful Belcekız.

The take of point has an altitude of 1700 meters, and you will arrive there by jeeps. If the wind is not enough in 1700 meters altitude, the paragliders will prefer to take off at 1900 meters. As it is serviced by professions, all security equipment and other procedures held very carefully. The guest is carefully placed by the pilot and the flight is controlled by the pilot. The experienced pilots may rise up to 3.500 meters and stay 5 hours in the sky. The agents which provide paragliding organisations are located in the Ölüdeniz coast.

Scuba Diving in Ölüdeniz

Ölüdeniz offers a variety of diving opportunities with regard to its crystal clear waters and rich underwater caves and fauna. Scuba diving is the most popular underwater activity. Local diving agencies provides courses and required scuba diving licences. The diving agencies arrange daily and weekly diving tours. It is possible to get diving certificates in these tours. Snorkelling is another diving activity and many sites are very suitable for snorkelling.
